Rules

Usually there is only one advisor, who has the status of lecturer (Dozent) or professor. It is the person who suggested the thesis and acted as the first referee. Exceptions from this rule were made after careful screening in very few cases. Among such cases are the following: a) The person who suggested the thesis had left the university, b) the thesis was done externally and the supervisor acted as referee, c) two professors suggested complementary topics on equal footing, d) an external referee was chosen as the first referee for only formal reasons. A person who is not entitled from his status to act as an official referee of the thesis cannot be listed as an advisor.
